Hi!

How do you spar in RR? Do you use soft sticks or light rattan sticks? What kind of protective gear do you use?

Before Rapido Realismo Martial Arts practitioner trained and spar with unpadded, no protective gear with no head contact kind of sparring and uses a lot of situational training than merely a sparring drills. but since PG Espera and i decided to expand thr RRMA and mostly student now are not ready for the real traditional based training. i was fortunate to be trained in this method of teaching. but since in the philippines we don't earn much money just by teaching we still need to fid job other than teaching Kali. We cannot trained much more than when we are in our youth days (although  i'm only 26 y.o.) . we don't treat kali as commercial thing which can give us money for living. most of our student are truck driver, security officers and some office workers who cannot trained in the hardcore traditional method we decided to use padded stick but not limit our selves to just stick but more in a situational method, which we will give them the situation and sparred them within the concepts of real fighting. we really like dog borhters because they don't limit them selves and we are just the same. but since you are schedule to trained with us you will soon found out and hope you can propagate the arts in good standing.

So if I understood it correctly, traditionally you sparred with unpadded rattan sticks, with no protective gear, but with no headshots? How was the level of injuries then?

When you say you now use padded sticks, is that rattat sticks that are padded on the top, or soft sticks with padding around a hard rubber core? Do you use gloves or helmet then?

Yes it is a rattan stick with a padded with foam. using a gloves is optional if student can afford to buy it then he can bring his own but in our advice no. we don't use it. as of now we still don't  use any helmet.
